In a case I worked on, extremists had approached a Pakistani man in his mosque who wanted him to become a suicide bomber. When he refused to be recruited, the extremists and the Pakistani man engaged in arguments in the mosque and later that evening at his home. The Pakistani man not only refused to become a suicide bomber, he also challenged the extremists verbally for their recruitment methods and their interpretation of Islam. When his driver was shot outside his home, the Pakistani man fled with his wife and his child to his father-in-law’s home in Karachi. The next day he flew to the United States.
I was hired as an expert witness to educate the judge about the dangers for this individual to return to Pakistan. I provided expert testimony in the deportation hearing of this Pakistani man.
